Barbara Bennett Haunton

Barbara attended high school at Southport High in Indianapolis and went on to receive her bachelor's degree from Indiana University where she met her loving husband, Richard Herbert Haunton who passed away in 2018. At Indiana she was a member of the yearbook staff and the jazz club. She enjoyed music and singing throughout her life. She loved teaching and taught in public schools in Atlanta, Georgia, at Appalachian State University where she received her master's degree in English literature, and taught at The Anderley Academy in Boone, NC.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Richard T. Haunton of Hickory; her daughter, Carol Haunton; and her beloved granddaughter, Annie Lavender Haunton of Raleigh.

A receiving of friends and family will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Hickory Funeral Home, 1031 11th Ave Blvd SE, Hickory, NC 28602.
