

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN DOWELL Benjamin Franklin Dowell of George Hidebran NC, born January 7, 1941, went home to be with his Savior early Monday morning, July 24th. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Benny is survived by his daughters, Regina Dowel Long and husband Alan Long, and Teresa Dowell Icenhour and husband Terry Icenhour. He is also survived by his brother David Dowell and wife Rebecca Dowell. Benny was loved greatly by his grandchildren, Daniel, Katie, Alex, Joy, Emily, Roi-Kyi, Brittany, Bradley and nine great grandchildren; Elisabeth, Gatlin, Anna, Journer, Mary, Wyatt, Samuel, Asher and Sterling, as well as many treasured nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife Mary Virginia Dowell. Also preceded in death by his mother Collie Childress Dowell, and siblings, Mattie Dowell Powell, Betty Dowell Maynard, Christine Dowell Carswell, CJ Dowell, Clay Dowell and Jessie Dowell. Benny owned and operated numerous businesses over his lifetime. He was a member of Central Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school teacher and deacon. He was a former member of Gideon’s International. He is well remembered for his craftsmanship in the furniture industry and as a hobby after retirement. He enjoyed time with family, as well as fishing and hunting. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, July 26th at 2:00 pm at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Dockery and Rev. Harold Cantrell officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm at the church. The service will be followed by burial at Catawba Memorial Park.
