Betty Jean (Matherly) Bentley

Born February 13th, 1947, to Gladys Irby Matherly and Clarence Burton Matherly in Gretna, VA.

Betty had two sisters, Patsy Emerson and Phyllis Jefferson of Altavista, VA, both predeceased.

Betty is survived by her caring husband Terry Bentley, a daughter Marcella Eckard, and a son William Eckard Jr and wife Spencer. Betty is pre-deceased by one son, Michael Jonathan Eckard. Betty was the proud Mawmaw to nine grandchildren, Brandy Elliot, Matthew Gray (Ashley) Peyton Eckard, Caramia Eckard, Kennedy Edwards (John), Tate Eckard, Elizabeth Eckard, Anderson Eckard, and Bodee Eckard and eight great grandchildren.

Betty thoroughly enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and looked forward to weekly visits with Matthew and was always up for a rousing game of BINGO. Betty, although small in stature, was large in being a loving mother and grandmother. She loved spending any type of time with her children. Betty worked in the furniture industry as a time study engineer setting rates for sewers and upholsterers. After raising the kids in Statesville, NC Betty and Terry moved to Hickory, NC to follow their children. Betty and Terry were cruisers at heart and loved taking various cruises to the Caribbean. Betty will be missed by her family for her loving, protective spirit.

A gathering of friends and family will be held on August 28th at 1pm at Hickory Funeral home.
