

Charles James “Chuck” Smithers, 81, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Born in Lewistown, PA on September 16, 1934, he was the son of the late Harold D. Smithers and Mae Dunn Smithers.
Chuck was a family man dedicated to his wife, children and grandchildren. He married Mildred Jean Woods on October 16, 1954 in Wincester, VA and they had two daughters. He was employed in the furniture industry in fabric sales from 1955 until he retired in 1995. His hobbies were playing golf, woodworking and antique collecting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Melinda S. Bollinger.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mildred Woods Smithers; daughter, Debbie Kinney and husband, Doug of Hickory; grandchildren, Jamie Yount and wife Keri of Lincolnton, Eric Bollinger and wife Amber of Bessemer City, and Regina Yount of Hickory; great grandchildren, Nautia Yount , Aaron Yount and Luke Bollinger; and one brother.
A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016 in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory with Pastor Kenneth Colman officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
