

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline H. Yount; brothers, Harry Yount and James Yount; and a sister, Mary Louise Yount Leonard.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie P. Yount of Marshville; daughters, Martha Chapman and husband, Torrence of Claremont, and Cheryl Ramsey and husband, Robert of Bethlehem; granddaughters, Debbie Lockman and husband, Dwayne of Hickory, Elissa Kincaid and husband, Tommy of Hickory, and Sandra Chapman of Claremont; grandson, Scott Ramsey and wife, Andrea of Claremont; great-granddaughters, Rhiannon Manzi of Hickory, Holly Manzi of Hickory, and London Ramsey of Claremont; brother, Richard Yount of Hartsville, SC; numerous nieces and nephews, and many lifelong friends that he called family.
Willard was an active member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Marshville, and was a former member of Viewmont Baptist Church in Hickory. He served in the Army during World War II, and earned the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Overseas Service Bar, Good Conduct Medal, and the Sharpshooter with Rifle Badge. Willard worked at Merchants Distributors Inc. in Hickory in the print shop until he retired. He had many interests and hobbies throughout his life, including gardening, traveling, and collecting historical items.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 1 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. at Drum Funeral Home in Hickory with the Rev. Jay Robison presiding. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory.
