Darrell Cline Thomas, age 75, of Hickory, passed away on February 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He lived a full and meaningful life marked by devotion to his family, dedication to his work, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys that brought him happiness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Beatrice Thomas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sharon, whose partnership and devotion were the foundation of his life. He also leaves behind his daughters, Angela Pinyan and husband Robert of Lexington, and Kelly Smith and husband Israel of Mount Airy. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Kayla Tolley, Brandan Pinyan, Jillian Tolley, and Asher Smith, whom he cherished deeply and in whom he took great pride. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn McCaskill and husband Jimmy of Seven Lakes, along with extended family members and dear friends.
Darrell was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His family was his greatest accomplishment and his deepest joy. He devoted his life to building a home filled with love, laughter, and steadfast support for those around him.
He was a faithful member of Corinth Reformed United Church of Christ in Hickory.
Darrell enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a furniture designer, where his creativity, craftsmanship, and eye for detail left a lasting mark. He took great pride not only in his work but also in the relationships he built throughout his career.
Outside of work, he found happiness—most of the time—in cheering for UNC Tar Heels basketball and Atlanta Braves baseball. He rarely missed a game and loved sharing his enthusiasm with family and friends. Whether celebrating a big win or debating a close call, his passion for the games was contagious.
Above all, he will be remembered for his steady presence, generous heart, humble nature, quiet strength, and sense of humor. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
