HICKORY – Donald Lee Harris, 81 of Hickory left this earth on March 30, 2021 to be with his Lord and Savior.
Don was born on January 26, 1940 in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Rosa Lee Harris Hamby. He was a founding member and key leader of The Chapel Church of Hickory. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, mentor, and child of God. He loved playing tennis, spending time with family, his dogs, and was a great story teller. Don was known and loved by many in the local area. He served the community by helping people with their insurance needs for over 60 years. Don never met a stranger.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister.
Survivors include his wife Phyllis Harris; children, John L. Harris and wife Marjorie, Michelle H. Holshouser and husband James, Bradley J. Harris and wife Michele; step-children, Belinda Bost and husband Steve, Tommy Martin and wife Sherry, Curtis Martin and wife Bethany, Stephanie McKee; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Randy Hamby and wife Kay; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 2 PM at The Chapel Church of Hickory with Rev. Dr. Dale Watts officiating.
Don will lie in state from 11:30 am to 1:30 PM at the church.
