Edward Earl Hicks

HICKORY—Edward Earl Hicks 88, of Hickory passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Frye Regional Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Caldwell County on January 20, 1926 to the late Forest Burkhardt and Elsie Sofina Craig Hicks. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters. Ed was retired from Hickory Chair after 45 years, he was a member of American Legion Post 48, and he also attended Temple Baptist Church. Ed is survived by his wife of 61 years Shirley Verlene Hildebran Hicks of the home; a daughter Cynthia Hicks Autrey and husband Roger of Morganton; granddaughters Crystal Sigmon, and husband Chris, Cathy Bowman and Nate Blount, and Jessica Marshall and husband David; a grandson Shawn Autrey; great-grandchildren Clay, Connor, Jacob and Brayden. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Temple Baptist Church from 1:00pm to 2:15pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 2:30pm at Temple Baptist Church with Reverend Lloyd King Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church 825 Lenoir Rhyne Blvd. SE, Hickory, NC 28602.
