Evelyn Marcella (Ward) Lail

Born April 7, 1949, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Howard Lee and Pearl Long Ward. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband Mack Kent Lail.

Evelyn was a member of Sandy Ridge Wesleyan Church and retired from Corning Cable where she worked in the shipping department.

She is survived by her daughter Sherry Starnes and husband Larry of Conover; grandchildren, Nolan M. Smith and wife, Bayley of Winston-Salem and James R. Simmons of Boston, Mass; great grandchildren, Alyssa Smith and Desiree Smith both of Winston-Salem and her sister Sandra Little.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hickory Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held, Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Sandy Ridge Wesleyan Church with Pastor Scott Howard officiating.

Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with James Simmons, Nolan Smith, Ronnie Lail, Jason Lail, Scott Little and Larry Starnes as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Chase Little and Bobby Lail.
