

HICKORY— Frances Icard Duncan, 84 passed away at Catawba Regional Hospice on Wednesday, August 16, 2017. Born Sarah Frances Icard in Catawba County on March 8, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Arthur David and Fannie Deal Icard. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Billy L. Duncan and her brother Kenneth L. Icard. Frances served in the Armed Forces as an Army Sergeant at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indiana and then in Sendai, Japan. After serving 4 years she returned to Hickory working as an insurance secretary for Pilot Life, Jefferson Standard, and then Lincoln national. She was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA where she taught Sunday school, worked with the cub scouts, was a member of the Womens Circle for many years. Frances is survived by her daughter Roxanne Duncan of Hickory; her son Bill J. Duncan of Hickory and her brother George D. Icard of Farmville. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 20, 2017 from 2:00 pm to 2:45 pm at St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA. The funeral will be Sunday, August 20, 2017 at 3:00 pm at St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA with Reverend Greg Brown officiating. Burial will follow at St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA Cemetery with military honors presented by American Legion Post 48.
