Frank John Shannon Jr.

Frank “Sonny” John Shannon, Jr, 82, of Hickory, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born April 13, 1934 in Mt. Holly, NJ, he was the son of the late Frank Shannon, Sr and Louise Fehrle Shannon. Frank loved to play pool, play golf and play the trumpet. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and met his wife during that time.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Coleman of Ohio.

Frank is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Bowman Shannon; sons, Doug Shannon, David Shannon and wife Sherry; daughter, Marlene Whitener and husband Bobby; grandchildren, Brian Whitener and wife Sarah, and Justin Shannon and wife Salem; and sister, Lorraine Rocco of New Jersey.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Unity Lutheran Church with Rev. Andrew Weisner officiating. Military honors will follow the service. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. prior to the service.
