Fred was born March 1, 1919 in Catawba Co. to the late Frank and Ollie Hefner Allen. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 3 sisters and 1 brother.
He was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church, worked for many years as produce manager for Country Boy’s Market and in later years worked for Springs Road Sporting Goods. He was an army veteran of WW II. During his tour of duty, he received the American Defense Service Medal, EAMET Campaign Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Purple Heart Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Surviving are his wife, Naomi Sharpe Allen of the home; his son, Darrell Allen and wife, Carol of Hickory; his daughter, Ann Carter and husband, Danny of Conover; granddaughters, Alicia Lafferty and husband, Justin of Sawmills, Hallie Carter of Conover, Brianna Carter of Conover and Lauren Crown and husband, Todd of Hickory; grandsons, Alex Carter of Conover and Matt Hale and wife, Katie of Hickory, 2 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, January 14, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Our Saviour Lutheran Church with the Reverend Robert J. Stevens officiating.
Interment will follow in Catawba Memorial Park with graveside military honors conducted by American Legion Post #48.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:45 – 1:45 PM at the church.
