Born January 14, 1940, he was the son of Sadie G. Cope and the late Fred Ray Cope. He was a designer in the medical profession.
In addition to his mother, Fred is survived by his wife of 26 years, Patricia Cope of the home; sons, Tom Cope, Todd Cope, and Tim Cope; daughter, Terry of New York; step-sons, Mark Lighton of Statesville, Gary Lighton of Minoa, NY and Jason Lighton of Cleveland, NC; sister, Jane Van Deuson; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 in the Drum Funeral Home Chapel in Hickory, with Rev. Jason Lighton and Rev. Gary Patterson, officiating. Burial will follow in the City of Conover cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
