Gail Hill Abernethy

Conover- Gail Irene Hill Abernethy, 77 of Conover went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 18, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Born on October 31, 1945 in Asheville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Honor Thomas and Ruby Irene Peterson Hill.

In addition to her parents, Gail is preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Louise Hill.

Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Emily (Matthew) Gallo of Stuart, FL, and Allison Huffman of Newton, NC. Also remembering her with love are her grandchildren Kendal, Ryder, Samuel, and Josephine. She is also survived by her brother, Michael Hill of Marietta, GA.

Gail attended St. Genevieve-of-the-Pines School in Asheville, NC, where she made many friends and lasting memories. She earned an undergraduate degree at Lenoir-Rhyne College and a graduate degree at Appalachian State University. After graduating, she spent 30 years teaching and impacting the lives of students at Long Creek Elementary in Huntersville, NC.

Gail was a proud mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed reading, traveling, bird watching, word puzzles, board games, water aerobics, doting on her grandchildren and lively story-telling. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and anyone who was fortunate enough to know her.

A private Celebration of Life Service will be held for her family & friends at Catawba Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Senior Nutrition Services of Catawba County.
