Helen Newsome

HELEN GERTRUDE NEWSOME GASTONIA- Helen Newsome, 86, went home to be with her Lord on February 2, 2016 after a brief illness. Born on December 7, 1929 in East Simsbury, Conn. she was the daughter to the late Arlow and Gladys Holland. She was a lifetime missionary with 16 years of service to India, Africa and South America. She retired from Catawba Valley Community College after 25 years of teaching. After retiring she spent the next 15 years serving on the staff at the Gastonia Potters House which is a recovery home for women. She was a loving and caring wife to her late husband of 42 years, A.J Newsome who precedes her in death. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Don Newsome. She also leaves behind a host of many friends that she embraced as sons and daughters who she deeply impacted throughout her lifetime. All are invited to Celebrate Helen’s Life on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Catawba Funeral Home. Service is at 2pm with a catered family visitation following. Honorary Pallbearers will be the ladies from the Gastonia Potters House; both former and current residents that she touched during her time of service there. In lieu of flowers or food the family has requested that donations be made to the Gastonia Potters House, 54 Burmil Road, Gastonia, NC 28054. Condolences may be left at www.catawbamemorialpark.com.
