Henry Neil McDowell

Henry Neil McDowell, age 80, of Hickory passed away, after a period of declining health, on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Born August 3, 1935, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Robert Garland McDowell and Mildred Carroll McDowell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Taylor and Peggy Hubbard; and one brother, Lewis McDowell. Henry was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Hickory. He was the former owner and operator of Holiday Laundry in Morganton. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Vaughn McDowell, of the home; daughter, Tamra McDowell Frye and husband, Jeff Cook of Hickory, NC; sons, Robert Neil McDowell of Littleton, CO, Kenneth McDowell and fiancée, Tracy Coffey of Hickory, NC; granddaughters, Kara Frye and Jada Frye, both of Hickory, NC; grandsons, Gunnar McDowell and Colten McDowell, both of Taylorsville, NC; sister, Carroll Templeton and husband, Buddy of Kannapolis, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016 in the Chapel of Hickory Funeral Home, with Rev. Jesse Lott, Mark Ikerd, and Jack Sipe officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., at Hickory Funeral Home. A second visitation will follow from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., at Whitley’s Funeral Home and Cremations, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083.
