He was born on April 3, 1936, to the late Julius Hudson and Effie Bivens Hudson in Cleveland County. He was a member of Westview United Methodist Church. Ivey was a true Bluegrass performer and singer.
Ivey “Papaw” brought warmth and genuine mountain soul to every stage and front porch, whether picking his guitar or making the steel sing. His rich harmonies and enduring love for traditional Bluegrass, connected generations and anchored his family with joy. A man of profound Christian faith who read the Bible through 44 times. He lived with the Scripture in his heart and song in his soul.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Leelia, Ruby, Goldie, Ossie, Susie, Mary and brother, Jesse.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 71 years, Peggy Gillian Hudson of the home, daughters, Carolyn Hudson of Hickory, Barbara Hefner and husband Gary of Newton, grandchildren, Tyler Hefner and wife Elizabeth of Apex, great grandchildren, Peyton Hefner, Gaither Hefner, and brother, Fred Hudson of Hickory.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hickory Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:45 until 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Charlene Hutchings and Rev. Pete Ross will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Brookford City Cemetery.
