Jeffery Baxter Smith

J. Baxter Smith, 66, of Hickory, passed away September 18, 2016 at Brian Center Viewmont. Born January 23, 1950 in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Paul Glenn Smith and Mildred Jean Barlow Smith. He was previously employed as a systems engineer for Bryant Heating and Air in Charlotte, and as a sales manager for Larry Smith Toyota in Hickory. Baxter was an avid UNC basketball fan and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Randy Smith.

Baxter is survived by his sons, Brian Smith, Dillon Smith and Phillip Smith all of Charlotte; brother, R. Brent Smith and wife Alice of Hickory; and sister, Paula Pritchard and husband Rev. Timothy Pritchard of Raleigh.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016 in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory with Rev. Tim Pritchard officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, prior to the service.
