

Born October 31, 1933 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Arney and Edith Goodnight Wyant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Scottie Propst Wyant; sisters, Ann Young and husband Ralph, Kate Peeler and husband Bill, Farris Wyant, and Dot Ellis and husband Bill, Ida Williams and husband Harry; brothers Charlie Wyant and wife Mary Jane, Bernice Wyant, John Wyant and Arney Wyant; brothers-in-law Jerry Richardson, Ray Parrish and Bo Moretz.
Joe was member of Sardis Lutheran Church, and a veteran of the United States Army. Known as “Candy Man” for his love of sharing candy with everyone he knew and for distributing Toms products for years. He will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Dorothea Wyant and Mike Lutz of North Myrtle Beach, Sherrie Midgett and husband Mike of Hickory; son, Neal Wyant and wife Lori of Hickory; granddaughters, Ashley Byrd and husband Matthew of Wake Forest, Chelsea Franzke and husband Norman of Germany; grandsons, Tyler Fry and wife Kelsey of Wake Forest, Alex Midgett of Hickory; great granddaughters, Avery Byrd, Finley Byrd, and Riley Fry; great grandsons, River Fry, Shepherd Fry; sisters Sarah Parrish of Fayetteville, and Texie Richardson of Vale and brother Don Wyant and wife Dottie of Vale; sisters-in-law Patty Wyant of Vale, Elaine Wyant of Vale, Marilyn Teague and husband Roger of Hickory, and Jane Moretz of Hickory, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be held, Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Sardis Lutheran Church with Pastor Oscar Shepherd officiating.
Burial will follow in church cemetery with Military honors.
A celebration of life for family and friends will be held in the Fellowship Hall following the burial.
