Joel was born on August 15th 1958 in Catawba County to the late Sperlin and Elsie McGee Townsend.
Joel was a member of Unity Lutheran Church.
Surviving are a sister: Lavonne Golden and husband Marshall of Conover, two nieces, Amilty Enci and husband John of Hickory and Hayley Johnson and husband Mark of Granite Falls. .
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 3, 2011, at 1:00 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Andrew Bell officiating.
Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 P.M. – 1:00 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home.
