John Steven Parker

John Steven Parker, 80, of Hickory passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 24, 2024. John was born in in Terrell, TX on September 26, 1944 to Colonel John B. Parker and Ruth Miles Parker Chandler who preceded him. John is survived by his brother, Matthew Parker (Cathy) of Hickory, NC and his sister, Laura Lancaster Roberts of New Harbor, ME as well as a nephew, Zachary Parker (Christine) of Summerville, SC and a niece, Alexandra Dawson (Will) of New Braunfels, TX. Additional survivors include three nieces, Ella Dawson, Adelyn Parker and Lucy Dawson along with several cousins. After being honorably discharged from the Army, John led a very colorful life in a wide variety of locations including Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Bangkok, Thailand. His biggest joys in life were fishing, reading and historical research. John considered achieving smoke-free sobriety over 30 years ago to be his most significant accomplishment.
