Joselene Buff Propst Bailey, 83, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019 surrounded by her family at Carolina Caring in Newton. She was born on June 30, 1935 to the late Lester Buff and Sadie Viola Winebarger in Catawba County. Joselene was a member of New Covenant Church of God. She was a God fearing woman and a fervent prayer warrior, who loved her family, church, and community deeply. Joselene was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed and forever loved. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert S. Propst; daughter, Bobbie Jo Propst; three brothers, and three sisters. Survivors include her husband, John S. Bailey of the home; son, Steve Propst and wife Elizabeth of Hickory; daughters, Sherry P. Ward of Hickory, Vickie P. Toney and husband Carroll of Hickory, Kim P. Lankford and husband David of Casar, Regina P. Propst and husband Tim of Connellys Springs; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and sister, Sonja Ward of Hickory. A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019 at 1: 00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hickory Funeral Home. Bishop Dennis Pitts will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Victory Baptist Church Cemetery. Her grandsons will be serving as pallbearers; Bobby Propst, Derek Ward, Justin Ward, Wesley Lankford, Adam Propst, Linton Lankford, and Andrew Propst. Biography

      Joselene Propst Bailey was known as many things to many people. She was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew her best, Joselene will be remembered as a very exceptional person.

      Joselene was born on June 30, 1935 at Richard Baker Hospital in Hickory, NC. She was the daughter of Lester and Sadie Buff. Joselene grew up in Hickory.

      Joselene was raised with eight sibilings. William, Nellie, Madge, Evelyn, Jim, Sonja, and Walter. Joselene was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings. She and her siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.

      Always considered a “good” friend to those she knew, Joselene enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during her lifetime. While growing up, one of her best friends was Beety Reep. Later in life, she became friends with Rachel Gross, Betty Reep, and many others.

      On May 31, 1952 and February 14, 1997 Joselene exchanged wedding vows with Robert S. Propst and John S. Bailey at Gaffney , SC Courthouse and the home of Sherry Ward of Gaffney, SC and Taylorsville, NC. Empathic and loyal, Joselene was committed to making her new family happy.

      Joselene worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. Joselene was blessed with six children, one son, Steve, and five daughters, Sherry, Vickie, Kim, Regina, and Bobbie Jo. Another blessing for Joselene was the gift of fifteen grandchildren, Kimberly, Bobby, Derek, Justin, Jessica, Sarah ,Amanda, Terica, Wesley, Larae, Linton, Rebecca, Adam, Stefeni, and Andrew.

      Fortunately, Joselene enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Joselene worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Her primary occupation was a home maker. She was employed in the Textile and Furniture Industry but mostly Hosiery Textile. Joselene always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.

      Joselene enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite past time was flowers, planting, and gardening. She was a Family, Church of God, and Gospel Group Pianist. She loved crocheting aftghans for children, grandchildren, sinlings, and many friends until the Rheumatoid Arthritis took away her ability. She was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others.

      Joselene’s faith was important to her. She was an active member of the churches she attended. She loved teaching Sunday School in her younger adult years and served on the women's ministries cooking for church fundraisers and meals.

      Joselene enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for her to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. She loved her two trips to the Holy Land, her favorite spot to visit was the mountains, Biltmore House, tubing down Lake Junaluska, going to theme parks with her grandkids and riding those challenging rides. She also loved walking on the beach shore.

      Joselene passed away on April 4, 2019 at Carolina Caring Hospice House in Catawba County. Aspiration Pneumonia was the cause of her passing. She is survived by her husband, John Bailey; son, Steve Propst and wife, Elizabeth; daughters, Sherry Ward, Vickie P, Toney and husband Carroll, Kim P. Lankford and husband David, Regina P. Propst and husband Tim; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and sister Sonja Ward. Services were held in the Hickory Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, April, 8, 2019 at 1: 00 pm. The family received friends on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Hickory Funeral Home from 4:00 until 6:00 pm. Joselene was laid to rest in the cemetery of Victory Baptist Church in Hickory, NC.

      Simply stated, Joselene was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Joselene leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Joselene Propst Bailey.
