Joyce Annette Smith

A life well-lived deserves to be celebrated! Joyce Annette Smith, 91 of Conover, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 18th, 2026, at Frye Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loved ones.

Born on May 16th, 1935, in Pender County, NC, Annette was the daughter of the late Mary Newton Devier. She is preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, James Perry Smith.

She is survived by her three children, Diane Barry, Dr. David Smith (Beverly), and Donna Barnhardt (Rodney), as well as nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She attended nursing school at Baptist Hospital and was a registered nurse who worked at Frye Hospital for many years. A faithful member of Woodlawn Baptist church, she served as a Sunday School teacher, VBS teacher, choir member, and was in a women’s circle prayer group. She was appreciated for her love for others, her humor and her unswerving devotion to God. She was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and friend.

Family visitation will commence at 1 pm on May 26, 2026, at Catawba Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life with Pastor Chris Peter officiating will follow the visitation at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Village Nursing home where excellent care was provided.
