Judy Kay Pittman Lail

Judy Kay Pittman Lail Age 70, of Hickory died December 19, 2013 of a lingering illness. She was preceded in death by her Husband of 44 years, Larry Wayne Lail. She is survived by a daughter, Gretchen LeBrun and husband Steve of the home, son, estranged, Jefferson Lail and wife Glenda, of Hickory, two grandsons, Jefferson Lail Jr. and Tyler Lail, of Hickory and her brother Burl Pittman and his wife Linda of Hickory. She was a retired Executive Assistant/Payroll Accountant with Manpower, Hickory Office, where she was awarded “Employee of the Year” in 1999. Using the pseudonym, “Kay Jefferson” she was the published author of “The Ghosts of Christmas Past.” She was known for her willingness to help others, especially the sick and needy. She was instrumental in setting up support groups and rally’s for military wives and mothers in Germany, Fort Bragg, and Hickory during Operations Desert Shield/Storm, in which her Daughter and Son-in-Law served. She received awards from several Army Bases in Europe in addition to the Hickory Jaycees President’s Award for her work with the American Red Cross upon her return from Europe. She also received several awards from Fort Bragg for her participation in supporting Military Wives.Judy is a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. Among her many hobbies were extensive world travel, with a special love for Islands in the West Indies, mountain climbing, hiking, gardening, floral arranging, and white water rafting. The family will receive friends at the Hickory Funeral Home on Saturday, December 21, 2013 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM. Friends are invited to mingle instead of standing in line. Her Funeral will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel at 2 PM with Dr. John Abernathy and Dr. John C. Compton officiating. Cremation is to follow service.
