Mrs. Judy Lee Odom, 61, Hickory, N.C., was greeted with open arms by our heavenly father at Carolina Hospice House on January 3rd, 2020 from a courageous battle with cancer.
She was surrounded by her loving family and friends, who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Miller.
Mrs. Odom was of the Baptist faith and attended Faith Baptist Church. She was recently employed by Shell BBQ Diner. She enjoyed spending time with her husband and best friend, Ted, by going to yard sales, thrift shopping, and collecting garden gnomes, fairies and humming birds. She enjoyed her fur babies Rocky and Layla.
She is survived by her husband, Ted Gortney, of the home. Her daughters, Anna Rhea of Johnson City, TN, Melissa "Missy" Nelson (Steven) of Unicoi, TN, and her son Michael Smith (Rebekah) of Mountain City, TN. Six grandchildren, Preston Rhea, TX, Olivia Hall, Hannah Pyron (Cody), Elijah Nelson, Ethan and Kynlee Smith all of TN; step daughters, Tina Farris, Angela Yoder, and Nicole Fisher. Five step-grandchildren and five step- great- grand children. She was also survived by a special cousin, whom was more like a sister, Goldie Tolley. Many aunts, uncles, and cousins remain to cherish her memory.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6pm on January 11th, 2020 at Faith Baptist Church, 2310 16th St. Hickory, NC. There will be a burial service at a later date.
The family would like to thank all the medical staff at the Cancer Center of NC, the medical staff at all the local hospitals, Carolina Hospice House, for all their care and compassion for Judy during this difficult time. We would also like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers for Judy and the family.
