

Kenneth Carl Houston, 88, of Hickory, passed away on August 20, 2015, at Frye Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. Born August 8, 1927 in Catawba County, NC, he was the son of the late Tommy Eugene Houston and Claudia Celest Winebarger Houston. A World War II US Army Veteran, he retired from the furniture industry. He enjoyed many years of selling produce at the Thunderbird Flea Market.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Malcolm Darrell “Bud” Houston, Dewey Houston,Vance Houston and Claude Houston; sisters, Ruby H. Goble, Sadie H. Eckard and Marie H. Eckard.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rachel Spencer Houston, son, Larry Houston and wife Gail of Maiden and Michael Houston of Taylorsville; daughter, Amy Freeman and husband Kent of Hickory; grandchildren, Jackie Falls, Kenny Houston, Walker Houston and Rachel Houston; great-grandchildren, Meile, Finn, Samara, Naomi, Hudson, and Philana.
A Graveside Service with military rites by American Legion Post 544, will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Homer Greene officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Drum Funeral Home in Hickory prior to the service.
