Lanny Lloyd Bumgarner

Lanny Bumgarner passed away on Thursday May 21, 2026 after a decline in health. Lanny served in the Marines for 10 years; he was a true Patriot his whole life. He worked in multiple industrial plants and was always a dedicated worker. He retired from Star Snacks in Newton Conover. Lanny's favorite sport was most definitely fishing, and he enjoyed it immensely with his friends and grand kids. Trips to Cherokee to trout fish were among his favorite things. Lanny had many beloved pets and had a tender heart for all animals. He and his little shadow Darla were inseparable. Lanny loved his family and had many dear friends whom he loved and enjoyed hanging out with. He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Bumgarner, mother, Sara Hudson, and sister Sara Jean Davis. Those left to cherish his memory include wife Teresa Bumgarner, daughter Stacie Buff and son in law George Buff, daughter Heather Bumgarner Moore, sister Teresa Smith and brother-in-law Butch Smith, sister Kerri Coffey. Grandchildren Raven Riopelle, Paxton Buff, Tristan Buff, Greyson Buff, Camryn Moore, Carrington Moore, and Keaton Moore. Great grandchildren Sawyer and Leia Riopelle. Sister-in-law Paula Stine and brother-in-law Rudy Stine. Lanny also had many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hickory Funeral Home. Rev. Ernie Richards will officiate the service.

We would also like any memorials to go to the Catawba County Humane society and the Samaritans Purse Operation Heal our Patriots in lieu of flowers.
