Larry G. Pope

Larry Garry Pope, age 65, of Hickory, went to join his son and Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. Born January 28, 1951, in Catawba County, he was the son of Jimmie Lee Jones Pope and the late William Easter Pope. Larry was a graduate of Mitchell Community College and later attended Lenoir Rhyne University. He was a member of Hartzell Memorial United Methodist Church. Larry was very active in the community in many capacities, was a member of Concerned Citizens of Ridgeview, the Hickory Branch of NAACP, and other organizations. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Edward Pope. Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Jimmie Lee Jones Pope; his daughter, Carmen Pope Brown; grandsons, Malcolm Re’Shaud Brown, Edward Lee Brown IV, Sterling Pope Cline, Hayden Pope Cline; granddaughter, Emma Nicole Cline; sisters, Margaret Pope, Denise Pope, Renric Pope; brother, William “Bill” Pope; niece, Lakisha Dula; nephews, Marcus Pope, and Iran Pope. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 22, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Hickory Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Hartzell United Methodist Church in Hickory, with Rev. George Coates officiating.
