Lee McCoy Echerd

Lee McCoy “Coy” Echerd, 90, of Hickory, passed away on October 29, 2021 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born July 10, 1931 in Alexander County, he was the son of the late Berlie McCoy Echerd and Maxine Rufty Echerd. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hickory.

In addition to his parents, Coy was preceded in death by his sisters, Polly Echerd Reinhardt and Kathryn Miller; and brother, Sam Echerd.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 70 years, Betty Propst Echerd, son, David Echerd and wife, Betty; daughter, Laura Echerd Woodruff and husband, Jim and Sarah Echerd Smith and husband, Ron; brother, Ronald Echerd and wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Drew Echerd and wife Leslie, Olivia Taylor and husband Matt, Ivy Woodruff and husband Gabe Winfield, Meredith Cook and husband Chad and Katie Harter and husband Cameron; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Modene Echerd.

A private graveside service will be held at St. Stephens Lutheran Church (ELCA) Cemetery.
