After 101 years of love and devotion, Leona Wilson Cansler left this world on Sunday, August 28, 2022 surrounded by her loving children, to join her Heavenly Father and her husband George W. Cansler whom God had received into his presence.
She was born on July 16, 1921 to the late Lander J. Wilson and Johncie E. Bryant in Catawba County. Leona was a longtime member of Mountain View Baptist Church. She was strong in her faith and always witnessed to anyone she came across. Leona’s passion later in life was making pillows with Bible verses to give out to residents in rest homes and to the children in the church.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George William Cansler; sisters, Mary Houser, Eunice Yount, Donnie Sigmon; brothers, Howard Wilson, and Coye Wilson.
Survivors include her daughters, Pamela Huffman and husband David; sons, Paul W. Cansler, David G. Cansler and wife Jaimie, Thomas L. Cansler and wife Sonya; grandchildren, Ronda Laber and husband Brad, Jordan Cansler, Joseph Cansler, Justin Cansler, Dillon Cansler and wife Taylor; great grandchildren, Meliah Potter, Kennedy Cansler, Lincoln Cansler, Caroline Cansler, Livie Cansler, Wyatt Cansler, and Twyla Cansler; siblings, Clifton Wilson and wife Margaret, Glenn Wilson, and Ruby Jo Wilson.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 until 11:45 a.m. at the church. Dr. John Compton and Dr. Corey Smith will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Mountain Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
