When I first started he couldn't remember my name. After awhile he began calling me Big John. He would come up to have conversations with me. He quickly became one of my favorite residents.

When I first started working at Brookdale Hickory NE, Louis and I bonded almost immediately with me working night shift. He always thought of himself as security for the building, and would constantly come to check in on me and make sure I was okay. If he got an all clear report, he would “head back to the cabin.” Louis was such a sweet and thoughtful person who always made sure to check on his “pretty ladies” and for that I thank him. Louis you will be greatly missed but I know we’ll meet again.

A sweet memory that I have of Louis is that we would spend the night shift in conversations about gosh knows what. Louis spread joy anywhere he went. He was a light that will constantly be shed throughout the hallways of Brookdale. I hope to see you one day in your cabin.
With love and condolences to the family.

My Buddy , My Buddy. When You First Came To Brookdale , You Had Your Smokey With You , Which We All Were So Afraid Of Except Big Mama Lol. You Were Shy And You Didn’t Want Anybody To Really Bother You , But You Opened Up And Became One Of My Favorites. I Remember You Always Asking Me , Where My Sister Lil Bit Was or Big Mama Lol . You Use To Always Look For Us 3 To Make Your Day. I Miss Those Times You Would Come Up To Me & Tell Me “Them Girls On Night Shift Ain Do My Head” And We Would Talk Junk And Tell You To Talk Junk Also , And You Did Lol . I Miss Your Smile And Sweet Personality. I Could Go On And On With Sweet Memories Of You , But I’m Going To Stop For Now . Praying For Your Family And May You Sleep in Peace. You Are Truly Missed.

Sweet Louis, RIP buddy! Brookdale Hickory NE will definitely not be the same without you there! I’ve loved taking care and getting to know you over the last year and a half! From the stories you would tell to you standing up for us when someone “wouldn’t leave us pretty ladies alone” Rest easy and we will have plenty more story times at your cabin one day!!!

When Louis 1st came to our community, he & I immediately shared something - our love of cats. He had Smokey & I shared with him pictures of my boy, Olivier - they were both big gray cats & looked similar. After both cats passed, he & I still talked daily. He called me 'Big Mama' & I called him 'Smokey' - that's how we knew one another. It got to be that everyone @the community knew who we were - LOL!! About 2 years ago, I took a few days off & other staff had to call me because Louis was looking for 'Big Mama' & he had to be sure I was ok. Over the past 3 years, we celebrated holidays & birthdays & always enjoyed our talks. I will truly, truly miss this man; he was a sweet, caring person. Rest in peace Louis aka my 'Smokey'; you will always have a place in my heart. Thoughts & condolences to Catherine & all other family.
