Mark Bruce Scruggs, of Boone, North Carolina, passed away on September 2, 2026, after a courageous battle with kidney disease. He was surrounded by the love of family and friends whose lives he touched in countless ways.
Born on December 3, 1962, Mark entered the world alongside his twin brother, Wayne. He was the oldest brother by 11 minutes. From the very beginning, he lived a life defined by his love for people, his generous heart, and his unwavering devotion to family and friends, many of whom he cherished for a lifetime.
Mark truly never met a stranger. Whether striking up a conversation with someone he had just met or reconnecting with an old friend, he possessed a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and included. He believed no one should ever feel left out or alone and often went out of his way to offer kindness, encouragement, and friendship to those around him.
His selflessness was evident throughout his life. In an act of extraordinary courage, Mark once rescued a woman from a burning trailer, a reflection of the compassion and bravery that defined his character.
Above all else, Mark cherished his family. They were the center of his world and the source of his greatest joy. He found immense happiness in spending time with those he loved and took pride in being a source of laughter, encouragement, and strength. The memories created with him will remain treasured gifts for generations to come.
Mark was also an entrepreneur at heart. He was a dreamer, an innovator, and a man overflowing with ideas. He loved discussing new ventures, exploring possibilities, and inspiring others with his enthusiasm and vision. His creativity and determination were evident throughout his life, and he approached each day with optimism, curiosity, and a belief that anything was possible.
An avid outdoorsman, Mark found peace and happiness in nature. He loved bird hunting and fly fishing, enjoying both the adventure and the quiet moments these passions provided. He was also a drummer and loved some good 80’s music!
Known for his caring nature and generous spirit, Mark was always willing to lend a helping hand, share advice, or simply listen when someone needed a friend. His warmth, humor, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Mark was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dolline and Harry Scruggs, and his grandmother, Ruby Lucas.
He is survived by his children, Brandon (Emily, LeeAnn, and Harry), Taylor (Troy and Oliver), Madison, Parker, and Hunter; his siblings, Suzanne McCutchen (Barry), Bonnie Sayre (Ed), and Wayne Scruggs (Fredia); and cherished nieces and nephews, including Bob, Shawn, Michelle, Steve, Eric, Tiffany, Mindy, and Logan as well as grandnephews and grandnieces.
Mark's life was a reminder that the greatest measure of success is not what we achieve, but the lives we touch along the way. His legacy of love, compassion, friendship, generosity, and inclusion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
