Martha Irene (Greene) Hames

Born on November 14, 1935 in Watauga County, she was the daughter of the late Vonnie and Essie Hendrix Greene.

Along with her parents, Martha is preceded in death by her husband, Troy Lee Hames; her son Garry Hames and his wife Patricia; grandson Jeremy Hames; sisters Millie Wilson, Verlee Mikeal and brothers Wallace Greene, Cecil Greene, Johnny “IP” Greene, and Travis Dale Greene.

Martha was retired cloth cutter from Vanguard and a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, gardening, and Mondays out with her sisters.

Her daughter Martha Lisa Hames and wife Michelle of Durham; sons Troy Hames and wife Joy of Hickory, William Hames and wife Janeen of Newton, Keith Hames and wife Kellie of Hildebran, and Dennis Hames and wife Margaret of Ocala, FL ; 19 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; sisters Lucille Spann of Icard, Marie Smith and husband Vertus of Connelly Springs, and Mary Cantrell and husband Harold of Rutherford College; brothers Harold Greene and wife Glenda of Taylorsville, Carl Greene of Connelly Springs, and Earl Greene and wife Suzan of California; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive her.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 9:45 am to 10:45 am at Temple Baptist Church.

The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at Temple Baptist Church with Reverend Lloyd King and Reverend Harold Cantrell will be officiating.

Burial will be at Catawba Memorial Park.
