

HICKORY— Marie Carpenter, 73, of Hickory passed away peacefully at Mission Hospital in Asheville on July 5th, 2016. Born Mary Mercedes Rowe in Port au Port, Newfoundland Canada on June 26th, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Anthony Joseph and Lillian Campbell Rowe. A loving mother and grandmother, she was a caring and generous soul who spent her life giving to others. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. Known as “Nana” to her family, she is survived by her daughters Wanda Hall and husband Rick of Connelly Springs and Brenda Bush and Bobby of Hickory, and her grandchildren Rodney K. Workman of Lexington, as well as Jessica Shull of Morganton, Courtney Parsons of Hickory, Jackson Hall of Connelly Springs and great-granddaughter Lilly Parsons of Hickory and nephews Rick Bailey, Steve Stallings and Frank Stallings and wife Sarah. She is also survived by siblings Eileen, William, Chester, Francis, Theresa, Cecilia, Anthony Jr. and Raymond Rowe. A sister, Rona Stallings, and husband Floyd Carpenter preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 7th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Hickory Funeral Home. The funeral will be Friday July 8th at 3:00 PM at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Earnest Richards officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
