Mary Ruth Dyson, age 90 of Newton passed away on July 11, 2016 at her home. She was born on May 26, 1926, in Freightville, Tennessee to Hobart Humphrey and Grace Hickman Humphrey Douglas. Mary is survived by her daughter Ann Hines and husband Ed of Conover; brother, Alonzo Douglas. Jr of Taylorsville; granddaughter, Denene Surbaugh and Raymond, III of Newton; great grandson, Jerry Surbaugh, IV, and fiancé Mary Grace Urcinola of Newton; great, great granddaughter; Chloe Grace Surbaugh of Newton and niece, Kim Sigmon and husband Rodney of Newton. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John Henry Dyson; sister in law, Alma Douglas and nephew, Robin Douglas. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at 1:30 pm at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory with Pastor Greg Hames. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Catawba Funeral Home in Hickory.
