

Mary A. Hill, 94, of Newton, NC, formerly of Wilton, CT and Hickory, NC, passed away on February 18, 2024. She was predeceased by her beloved husband A. Russell Hill. Born in Norwalk, CT, Mary was the daughter of Joseph and Maria Svalduz. She lived in Wilton, CT for over 50 years before moving to North Carolina.
Mary loved her life in Wilton, CT with her husband, children and her father Joseph. She spent much of her time cooking with her father’s garden ingredients and hosted many Sunday dinners. She loved visiting flower gardens and she loved the color pink.
Mary was a member of Our Lady of Fatima while living in CT and St. Aloysius Catholic Church in NC. She was deeply religious, and for the occasion of her 85th birthday, Mary had the honor of being awarded by Pope Francis, “Many Blessings”, and from our Queen Mother Mary, “Many Graces”.
Mary is survived by two sons and their wives, Mark and Anita Hill of Colchester, CT; Thomas and Beth Hill of Southern Pines, NC. She had four grandchildren Matthew and Andrew Hill of CT, and Amanda and Stephen Hill of NC, and a great grandchild George of NC.
There will be a mass to celebrate her life on March 3, 2024 at 9:30 am at 6860 Greedy Highway, Hickory, NC 28602 adjacent to the Catholic Conference Center.
There will be a graveside service at a later date at Hillside Cemetery in Wilton, CT where Mary will be laid to rest beside her husband.
The family would like to thank her care givers at Abernathy Laurels and Hospice, as well as her friends and health care advocates who all helped her to a peaceful end of life.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to St. Aloysius Church or the Salvation Army in Hickory at P.O. Box 1167, Hickory, NC 28603.
