

Maxine was born December 23, 1922 in Catawba Co. to the late Clarence Edward and Cordie Nina Yount Carpenter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Warren A. Hovis; brother, David Carpenter; sisters, Doris Wagner and Ethel Tucker.
She joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for fifty years. She was active in all church functions and was ready to help when members would call for help or advice. January 4, 2009, she became a charter member of Amazing Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Surviving are her son, Larry Hovis, and wife, Paula; two grandchildren, Cheryl Hovis Bass and Warren A. Hovis and wife, Karrie; five great-granddaughters, Lindsey, Patricia, Corinn, LeeAnn and Rachael Hovis and one great -grandson, Brandon Bass, one brother, James Carpenter and wife, Betty and one sister, Shirley Fisher and husband, Clyde.
Visitation at Hickory Funeral Home Saturday, February 2, 2013, from 12:45 pm – 1:45 pm. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ryan Ray officiating. Interment will follow in Catawba Memorial Park at 3:00 pm.
