HICKORY - Mildred Loretta Workman, 89, passed away December 10, 2013 at Brian Center- Viewmont after a brief illness. Mildred was born October 7, 1924 in Catawba Co. to the late Robert E. Keener and Velma Cline Ross. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Workman and a sister, Lorene Griffey. She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, Brookford, served on the church consistory, church choir, SS Teacher, volunteered at Frye Regional Medical Center for many years and retired from Highland House. Mildred loved making chicken pies, loved flowers and mostly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are sons; Gary Workman and wife Georgette, of Newton and Ronald Workman of Hickory; daughter, Janie Hughes and husband, Jackie, of Conover; grandsons, Aaron Workman of Hickory and Jason Hughes and wife, Jennifer, of Mooresville; granddaughters, Aveary Eckard of Hickory and Jessica Hughes Wagner and husband, Nicholas, of Austin, TX; great grandchildren; Levia Workman, Olivia Eckard, Jayden Hollar and Jenavieve Hughes; brothers, Rev. Charles Keener and wife, Mary, of Hickory, Howard Keener and wife, Gwyn, of Hickory and Bob Keener and wife, Debbie, of Hickory and a sister, Mary Campbell of Hickory and a number of nieces and nephews Services will be Friday, December 13, 2013, at 3:00 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Harry Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:45 – 2:45 P.
