Morris Clay Mitchell

Morris Clay Mitchell, 82 of Newton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on March 22nd, 1944, in Alexandria, VA. Morris was the son of the late Emmitt and Leona Mitchell. He was the husband of the late Dorothy Mitchell. He was the grandfather of the late Ethan Gibbs.

Those left to cherish his memory include his 6 children, Glenda Lail and husband, Jeff, Michael Mitchell, Jeffery Mitchell and wife, Amanda, Deborah Lackey and husband. Marvin, Joseph Mitchell and Rebecca Hatley and husband, Ardell;

his grandchildren, Jeff Lail Jr, Tyler Lail, Sunnie Mitchell, Heather Hays, Kayla Mitchell-Goli, Jessica Thomas, Justin Mitchell, Crystal Gibbs, Angel Gibbs, Caitlin Phillips, Danielle Miller, Cameron Swafford, Isaiah Swafford, Richard Sisk and wife Hannah;

his great-grandchildren, Hunter Pennington, Wyatt Thomas, Noah Thomas, Dalton Miller, Jaden Miller, Chloe Mitchell, Jaxon Mitchell, Jonah Mitchell, Arrianna Gross, Allianna Gross, Elijah Barker, Taylen Phillips, Maddox Bodford, Maverick Shook, Joselyn Shook, Lucas Rhoney, Lillian Rhoney, Lincoln Miller, Malachi Swafford, Josiah Swafford, Zachariah Swafford, Aiden Sisk and Skylar Sisk, Landon, Rolan Brittain, as well as, Nathan, Landon, Ace, Mya and Aniyah.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday August 29th, 2026, at Catawba Funeral Home at 2pm with Reverend Terry Johnson officiating. He will be laid to rest at Catawba Memorial Park following the service.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 28th from 6pm to 8pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catawba County Animal Shelter, Carolina Caring or the VA in Morris’ name.
