

Myrtle was born November 19, 1932 in Catawba Co. to the late Jesse Lee and Bertha Estelle Hunt Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Bartow “Bart” Milam; a sister, Ruby Philbeck; 2 brothers, Gene Smith and Keith Smith, and a step mother, Vertie Smith Lovelace.
She was a lifelong member of Faith United Church of Christ and retired from Hickory Chair Co.
Surviving are her daughters Justina Milam Smith and husband, Jim, of Lenoir, Cynthia Milam Thorpe and husband, Lewis, of Loris, SC and Darlene Milam Burns and husband, Robin, of Connelly Springs; her son, Bart Sheldon Milam and wife, Joann, of Sandersville, GA; granddaughters, Jessica Britt of Conway, SC, Brandon Leigh Wilson of Hickory, Marie Kitchens of Athens, GA and Tabitha Boyd of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandsons, Neil Milam of Hickory, Jimmy Smith of Lenoir and Amos Burns of Connelly Springs; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandson and a brother, J. L. Smith of Orlando, Fla. Also, a special uncle and aunt, Lamar and Ann Hunt, and a special cousin, Farel Hunt.
A graveside service will be Friday, July 20, at 11:00 A. M. at Brookford City Cemetery with the Rev. Harry Griffin officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 – 8:30 PM at Hickory Funeral Home.
