She was born on April 4, 1930 to the late George and Jessica Roper Ritch in Catawba County. She loved animals, fishing, and anything outdoors. She was an avid gardener who loved working in the yard with her flowers. She never met a stranger that she didn’t want to share a hug with. Her true love was being with her grandchildren and family. May the wonderful memories and stories of her life continue to bring joy and laughter to others.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Lawton Burgess Jr., four brothers, and three sisters.
She is survived by her one son, John Alan Burgess and wife Teresa S. Burgess, two grandsons; John “Bradley” Burgess, and wife Savanna Burgess, Tyler Lewis Burgess, and granddaughter; Jessica Burgess Flowers and husband Zachary, and numerous nieces, a nephew, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Winkler’s Grove Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 1: 45 p.m. at the church. Pastor Dale Faulkenbury will be officiating the service. The burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will include Gregory Sain, Linc Huffman, Todd Cook, Marty Anderson, David Sigmon, Mike Fulbright, and honorary pallbearer, Craig Cleverly.
Ms. Burgess loved the Lord and wanted to share her favorite Bible verse with you, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16.
