

Born on January 26, 1939, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Perry Gordon and Addie Lee Whitener Fisher.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband James “Jim” Colon Burns; her daughter Ramona Gayle Frye and her husband Toney; sisters Dolly Hawn, Jamie Bumgarner, and Vada Yoder, brothers Ralph Fisher and Clyde “Sonny” Fisher.
She is survived by her son: James Colon Burns II, and wife Kim of Hickory; sisters Becky Estes of Hickory and Ruth Gaston of Cherryville and a brother Ray Fisher of Newton; grandsons James Colon Burns III of Winston-Salem; Jacob Burns, and wife Kelly of Hinesville, GA, Joshua Burns of Hickory, Anthony Frye and wife Wendy of Claremont, James Frye of Savannah, GA, granddaughter Kris Frye and wife Ariene of Burlington; great grandsons Elijah Kol Coffey of Hinesville, Ga and James Frye Jr. of Savannah Ga; sisters-in-law Francis Fisher of Hickory, Phyllis Yost, and husband Bill of Granite Falls, and Ramona Sanders of Shelby; brother-in-law Joel Burns, and wife Donna of Hildebran; and many special nieces and nephews.
Phyllis graduated from Hickory High School in 1957. She was retired from Catawba County Health Department after more than 30 years of service. She volunteered for more than 20 years for Meals on Wheels and Cooperative Christian Ministries. She was a member of the Mt View Senior Citizens Group and Catawba County Cancer Society. She would assist her church members and family friends to take them to doctor appointments and other errands when they needed transportation.
Phyllis was a faithful member of Faith Reformed Church where she served on the Church Consistory, Choir member, Sunday School Administrator, Fundraising Coordinator, Church Secretary, Church Treasurer, assisted with meal preparations for various functions, custodial duties, and assisted with shut ins.
Memorial service will be held Sunday, June 5, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Faith Evangelical & Reformed United Church of Christ with Reverend Harry Griffin officiating. The family will receive friends following memorial service.
