Richard Colley Burton

Connelly Springs – Richard Colley Burton, 75 of Connelly Springs went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at his home.

Born on December 21, 1947 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Richard was the son of the late James Martine and Wanda Ruth Gunter Burton.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Frankie and Marc Burton.

Richard served honorably in the U. S. Army (101st Airborne/Screaming Eagles) and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a faithful, active member of West Hickory Baptist Church, having served as deacon. He cherished his family and enjoyed socially being with friends. Sports were a big part of his life both as a participant and a spectator. He especially enjoyed playing golf with his church buddies.

Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife of fifty-two years, Connie Young Burton; three sisters, Carolyn Blair and husband Jack of Charlotte NC, Janet Huffmaster of

Charlotte, NC, Robin Causey and husband, Eddie of Little River, SC and a brother, John Burton and wife, Tammy of High Point, NC.

A Graveside Service will be held at Catawba Memorial Park on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dr. Scott Frady officiating.

A Memorial Service will be held after the graveside service at West Hickory Baptist Church at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Scott Frady officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carolina Caring, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658 or West Hickory Baptist Church, 40 12th Street, NW, Hickory, NC 28601 in Richard’s name.
