Robert was born on January 31, 1934 in Burke County, NC, he was the son of the late Robert Townsend Sr. and Flavie Burns Townsend. Robert serviced the US Marine Corp and also went to Wilkies Grove Baptist Church in Hickory.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, James and Henry Townsend; sister, Flora Teague.
He is survived by his son, Daniel Townsend; daughters, Michelle (Kim) Knight and Barbara (Richard) Doolin; sister, Catherine Stilwell; 3 grandchildren, Alyssa (Brian) Stevenson, Richard Doolin and Katherine Knight.
A Funeral Service will be held at Catawba Memorial Park, Funerals & Cremations Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 10am with Pastor Thurman Roe officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:00 – 9:45am at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Burke Hospice 1721 Enon Rd Valdese NC 28690.
