

RW was born May 30, 1919 in Florence, SC to the late Jeptha James and Sarah Lula Coble Bass., Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy Newton Bass, Thornwell Leo Bass , J. J. Bass, Jr and Jennings Brian Bass; two sisters, Rosa Melton and Annie Dula and two grandsons, John Bass, Jr. and Michael Bass, Jr.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, served on the church council, SS Treasurer, an assistant Boy Scout Master, retired from Drexel Heritage and was a veteran of World War ll in four major campaigns.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma Bernice Redmon Bass of the home; daughter, Linda Dellinger and husband Lynn of Conover; sons, John Bass and wife, Kathy of Orlando, FL, Mike Bass and Wife, Donna of Hickory and Roger Bass and wife, Robbin of Newton; grandchildren, Amy Rogers and husband, Joe of Conover, Link Dellinger and wife, Rebecca of Union Mills, Alison Fulbright and husband, Larry of Conover, Adrian Dellinger and wife Allens of High point, Avery Dellinger and wife, Brittany of Hiddenite, Lauren Dellinger of Conover, Kevin Bass and wife, Tara, Kirk Bass of Hickory, Kyle Bass of Hickory, Jeb
Bass of Newton, Dale Bass of Newton, Jackson Bass of Newton, Maria Penley of Newton and Jolanne Lang of Hickory, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, a number of nieces and nephews and a sister, Vonnie Corley and husband, Tom of Morganton.
Services will be Friday, September 14, at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Woodard and Rev Beth Woodard officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside honors conducted by American Legion Post #38.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at Hickory Funeral Home.
