

Ruth Scott Reinhardt, 97, of Asheboro, NC, died Saturday, August 16, 2014, at her residence at Crossroads Retirement Community. Born in Burke County on July 21, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John Marshall Scott and Lillie Mae Penley Scott. She was a loving wife to H. Ransom Reinhardt until he preceded her in death in 2001. Ruth was a long-time resident in Hickory, NC and a charter member at Hickory’s Temple Baptist Church. A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, Mrs. Reinhardt is survived by her son, Mike Reinhardt and his wife Lisa of New London, NC; two granddaughters Kasey Reinhardt of Charlotte, and Kelly Bernhardt of Arizona, Kelly's husband Staff Sergeant George L. Bernhardt III and their two sons (great-grandsons) Landon and Micah Bernhardt, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, Ernest, Thomas, Mark, Charlie, Herman and Paul Scott; sisters, Mary Jordan and Sarah Scott; a half-brother, James Scott; and a half-sister, Della Fox. In life, Ruth loved her many friends, loved life, embraced a healthy lifestyle and was generous almost to a fault. She loved her family and was simply thrilled when her granddaughters visited and most especially when her great-grandsons were able to visit. She was an avid walker all her life, and won First Place many years in the oldest speed-walking divisions of the Senior Olympics held in Hickory. The funeral will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Catawba Memorial Park, Funerals & Cremations, 3060 Highway 70 SE, Hickory. Reverend Lloyd King of Temple Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow on the same grounds at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the "Dreams Come True” program at Crossroads Retirement Community, 1302 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, NC 27205. This program helps to fund the residents' dream trips or experiences, from Skydiving (!) to a trip to Graceland, to seeing the beach for the first time.
