Ryu Thao, 19, of Conover, NC went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 19th, 2026, at his residence.
He was born on August 10th, 2007, in Catawba County, NC. Ryu was the son of Trao Thao and Kia Vue. He was a graduate of the Bunker Hill Class of 2025, and a member of the CVCC Esports Team. In his pass time, he enjoyed playing video games, chatting with friends, and trying out different types of foods.
Ryu was deeply cherished by his close friends and family. He was a sweet and caring young man who always put his family first, especially his parents. He had many plans and aspirations for eventually retiring his father. At such a young age, he showed much love and care for his family.
Ryu is preceded in death by both of his paternal grandparents, Nhia Xiong Thao and Neng Xiong, along with his maternal grandma, Doua Thor.
Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Trao Thao and Kia Vue; his 3 sisters, Mali Thao, Alia Thao, Angel Thao; his only brother, Christian Thao; his two brothers in law, Jonathan Moua and Romeo Yang; and his favorite nephew, Sebastian Yang.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Catawba Funeral Home on Saturday, October 31st, 2026, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm with Pastor Jonathan Moua officiating.
Ryu will be laid to rest at Catawba Memorial Park following the service.
