Terry Stokes Terry Stokes passed away December 5, 2014 after a courageous fight with Pancreatic Cancer. He is preceded in death by his son Terry (Gino) Stokes Jr., brother Odell (Butch) Stokes Jr. in the Vietnam War, sister Barbara Stokes Robinson, father Odell Stokes Sr., and mother Helen Pauline Stokes. Survivors include his loving wife Donna Dowdle Stokes, daughter Denise Stokes Hall, two grandchildren, and two sisters Peggy Stokes Eckard and Paula Stokes Spencer. Terry spent several years in the US Marine Corps. He attended the University of South Carolina and Lenoir Rhyne College. He was an avid pilot and spent a lot of time traveling in his plane. He was retired as a Vice President of a chemical manufacturing plant in Charlotte, North Carolina. After retirement he founded Stokes & Stokes LLC, specializing in the manufacturing of single family homes and Townhouses. Terry was also one of the former owners of the Rock Barn Golf & Golf. He was also a member of the Masons and was Shriner. He was an avid golfer until his cancer diagnosis put an end to that hobby and he sorely missed the times with his golf buddies. Terry was part of a dance band called Rhythm Kats while growing up and continues his love for music all of his life. Terry dearly loved the times that he spent with his two cocker spaniels…. they were his two best buddies. He also loved the times spent with his best friend Carolyn Stokes; the trips and day to day events. Spending time with his classmates was a highlight in his life; he looked forward to reunions and get-togethers. Another highlight was spending time with Philip Blumenthal who was like a brother. They enjoyed going to lunch, ballgames, and hair cut appointments. He loved life and talking about old times. A funeral service will be help on Tuesday, December 9, at 1 pm at the Abernethy United Methodist Church, 111 W. 13th St. in Newton. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
