Thelma Abernathy Teague

Thelma was born October 13, 1934 in Burke Co. to the late Sutton and Mary Carswell Abernathy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Scott Teague and a brother, Don Abernathy.

Her hobbies included walking, doll collecting, square dancing and was very artistic with flower arranging and tole painting. Her joy was traveling with Ray and her children and grandchildren. One of their last trips, was their 50th. wedding anniversary trip to Disney World with all of their family.

Surviving are her loving husband of 59 years, Ray M. Teague of the home; daughters, Debra T. Spencer and husband, Kevin, of Conover and Robin Bumgarner and husband, Gary, of Newton; granddaughters, Brandy Cline and husband, Jeff, of Newton and Kasey Savage and husband, Tim, of Creedmoor, NC ; grandsons, Chris Spencer and wife, Emily, of Sherrills Ford and Ryan Spencer and fiancé, Carley Pencola of Conover; great grandsons, Cole Cline, Jay Cline and Conner Cline all of Newton; sisters, Virginia Dowell and husband, Benny, of Hickory, Linda Young and husband, Steve, of Hickory and Carolyn Bolden and husband, Johnny, of Hickory; brothers, Jack Abernathy and wife, Susie, of Hickory, George Abernathy of Hickory, Neal Abernathy and wife, Nell, of Hickory and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday, May 13, at 11:00 AM at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church with Rev. Randall Cauble officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 – 10:45 AM at the church.
