Virginia Day Cook

HICKORY-- Virginia Beatrice Day Cook, 98 of Bethlehem went to meet her Lord and Savior in her heavenly home on August 21, 2016 at Trinity Village Nursing Facility of Hickory. Virginia, “Grandmother Cook”, was born December 23, 1917 in Watauga County to the late Lawrence and Beulah (Hamby) Day. She was married to the late Gleason Emory Cook. They married in 1932, moved to the Bethlehem Community in July of 1976 and she lost her beloved husband in December of that same year. She retired from Clayton Marcus in Bethlehem in 1982. She loved God, reading the Bible, was immersed in her Christian faith that would be her lifelong support from an early age. She also loved watching preachers on the gospel channel and listening to gospel music. She enjoyed visits from family and friends and was a joy to be around. She never met a stranger and always had a smile for everyone. She will be dearly missed by her friends and loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator. Including her parents and husband she was preceded in death by infant son, Kenneth (stillborn), and infant daughter (stillborn) an adult son Charles Cook of the Wittenburg community and her siblings; Edward Day (brother-died at 6 month of age), Clyde Day (brother) of Tennessee, Ruth Calhoun (sister) of Bethlehem, Addie-Belle Waldon Mast (sister) of Sawmills and Dorothy Miller (sister) of Newton. She was also preceded in death by two grandson, Roger Cook and Ricky Cook of Hickory. Those left to cherish her precious memories include: her children; son James Dean Cooke Sr. and wife Brenda of Bethlehem, daughter Brenda Huffman and husband Kenneth of Shelby, son Billy Wayne Cook of Granite Falls and her grandchildren; James Dean Cooke, Jr. and wife Tammy of Granite Falls, Tonda Folk and husband Chris of Shelby, Jody Cooke and wife Angel of Catawba, Ginny Farris and husband Tim of Valdese, Billie Walker and husband Brian of Hiddenite, Tasha Perkins and husband Brandon of Hudson and Dalton Cook of Granite Falls. She also has 15 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 23, 2016 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Hickory Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 1:00pm at The Fountain of Life Worship Center, 428 S. Main Street, Granite Falls NC 28630, with her grandson, Rev. James Dean Cooke, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Blueridge Cemetery in Lenoir. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Fountain of Life Worship Center, 428 S.
